Gamma Phi Community Involvement

Gamma Phi's are not only highly involved in the chapter, but also in the McGill and Montreal community.

Internationally, we support Camp Fire USA which serves "Today's Kids, Tomorrow's Leaders". It helps over 750,000 kids annually by providing educational programs to communities across the USA. Gamma Phi supports camping because it provides an awareness to the world and promotes diversity and local and community involvement. These experiences build an incredible spiritual and social resiliency in its participants and are the principles upon which Gamma Phi was founded. See campfire.org for more information.

Locally, we support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. In September 2004, we raised over $900 for this cause which is very important to our members. On September 30, we participated in the CIBC Breast Cancer Run for the Cure with people of all ages from across Montreal! In September 2005, we raised approximately $400 for the Panhellenic Team for CIBC Run for the Cure.

Another cause which is important to our chapter is helping people with Lou Gehrigs disease. One of our
alumni, Sheila Watts, was diagnosed with this disease, otherwise known as ALS. In March of 2006 we had a very successful fundraising tea, and invited Sheila to come and speak to us about her experiences. To learn more about Lou Gehrigs disease, please go to www.als.ca.

Other philanthropic events that we have participated in during this year are....
- We had a bakesale for Breast Cancer in Novemer 2006
- We helped raise money for Juvenile Diabetes with IGLC in November 2006
- We had a pancake breakfast to raise money for Breast Cancer in March 2007
- In October 2007 we had a bakesale to raise money for two of our members, Sofia Quilico and Melanie Gagnon, to participate in the Walk for MS, and we raised over $200
- We spent time with sick children at the Montreal Children's Hospital during November and December 2007
